Koi No Yohei has just won the coveted Grand Champion prize at the Tokai District Koi Show with a 96cm Sanke. Momotaro wins the ZNA All Japan Koi Show with Ryujin at 107cm! It was only last week that I was looking at this monster of a Sanke and said to Daisuke Maeda that the Koi still has an amazing lustre for such a big Koi. I asked if she was going to win the All Japan Koi Show next February? and he replied we hope to win both! starting with the ZNA next week. Well one down one to go!
At 107cm this Koi dwarfs an 80cm Koi and has to be seen to be appreciated.

The latest addition to our filter range is now available, the Mizu lantern is a 'Shower' style filter disguised as a Japanese Lantern. The filter came about by customers wanting the benefits of shower style filtration but not the problem of trying to hide it! The Mizu in the photo is in light grey granite finish and we have three other colours; dark grey, dark green and sandstone all with granite effect. The filter stands 4ft tall and comes with 40kg of our new high porosity shower media called BioPore, all for a price of £499.00.

The Harvest of the 38,000 gallon pond took place and was a great success. The Koi were in fantastic condition, had grown very well and improved in every way . When you decide to grow Koi in this way the quality you put in the pond is vitally important. We only put top quality Hybrid Koi in this years event and the Koi have not let us down. Full details to follow in the next few days with full measurements and photos.

The temperatures have now dropped and we are now going to Harvest the 'Grow Out' pond on Saturday Oct 17th at 12pm. All those of you that have purchased one of these Koi are obviously welcome but we would also like to invite everyone else. We hope to show and explain the developments and traits (Keito) that have now become apparent. In the 8 weeks or so these Koi have had in the pond there has been significant growth and with that there has also been fundamental changes to the Koi. These were only indicated at their small size, but are now very obvious. It is this kind of development that we can explain with the aid of the original Photos and the Koi itself. The advantage we have is that there are nearly 50 Koi on view and all have 'before' photos. It is this type of visual 'hands on' learning that you can only get in Japan, well not any more!! The Koi will be harvested then kept here for two weeks for acclimatisation , so they can be viewed after the event if you can't make it.
The Harvest of On the same note we are off to Japan in less that four weeks and are putting together a 'wish list' for our customers. If you are looking for any Koi in particular then please contact us and we can discuss finding them for you. All Koi sourced are always subject to viewing on arrival in the UK and there is no obligation to buy if the Koi we find is not suitable. By the way, this has never happened!!

The Autumn Harvest in Japan now beckons, it has not been a hot Summer in Japan and there are currently two versions of how this will affect the Harvest; one, is that the cooler temperatures will mean the Koi have fed every day and grown more and two, that the Koi will not have fed enough!
Well only time will tell and needless to say a cool Summer in Japan would rank as a 'Hottest on Record' here! As it has been cooler the breeders we use are aiming to Harvest slightly later and therefore we won't be travelling until the first week in November. We are now making our final bookings during the next week and if anyone would like to accompany us please contact us as soon as possible, as we are currently deciding whether to run one or two trips.
Our trips are tailored to our customers requirements, we travel to every region in Japan and our contacts enable us to visit any Koi farm. As a rough guide we intend to visit four main areas;
Chiba for Takachio, Kyowa, Migita and Gonjiro Niigata for Kyusan, Ononuma, Marusaka, Sakamaki and Hiroi Seiji Gifu/Aichi for Kondo, Koi No Yohei, Higashi, Koi Doraku, Dainichi and Maruyama Hiroshima/Okayama for Takigawa, Omosako, Sakai, Tamaura, Takeda and Momotaro.
We think that this covers pretty much every top class breeder in Japan and is a list that cannot be matched!
As a rough guide the trips are run on a pay as you go basis, the flights are just £457 and hotels around £40-50 a night. Plus food and drink.
Please contact us if you have and further questions.

Grow Out Update
The Koi have now been in the growing pond since late July and have really started to put on volume as well as length. The water temperature today was 26oC! Our favoured location seems to enable this pond sustain high temperatures very easily and means more growing time for the Koi!

For those of you who don't know, last year we ran a competition with some of the New Hybrid Yamabuki Tosai (15-28cm) at £99 and offered a prize to the one that had grown the most by the end of this Summer. Well, Summer is still hanging on, but Autumn is not far away so I would like everyone one has one of these Koi to email the size their Yamabuki is now. (Don't worry we have the original sizes here) Once we have the five that have grown the most we will then come out and measure them ourselves and award the prize of a £500 Koi No Yohei Voucher to the winner. The final date for entries is October 1st.
Although not in the competition we have also grown three Yamabuki in our 38,000 Gallon pond and our results in just seven weeks are astonishing, we will post these details when we harvest them in mid October.
This Yamabuki is owned by a Dutch customer and was just 14cm on July 1st and is now 40cm !

After the hectic five days spent with Mamoru Nagasaki on his UK visit, we finally have time to list the Koi supplied by us that have taken prizes at recent shows in the UK. We had some prizes for our Koi at last years South East Koi Show and also this years BKKS National but this set of results really shows our abilty to supply Show Quality Koi. We have only been trading for just over one year, so we know these results are just the start. Most of these Koi were supplied last year so next years list is going to be a lot longer!

Well this is one of the biggest announcements to date, Mamoru Nagasaki of Koi No Yohei will be visiting us from the 11th to the 15th of September for a promotion of his Super Hybrid Showa. It is very rare for the Japanese breeders to come to the UK and we take this as a great endorsement of the impact we have made with the Hybrid Koi since we introduced them less than 18 months ago. Mamoru the son of Yohei Nagasaki and is the driving force behind the rapid improvements that the farm has made with the Hybrid Bloodline.
The one variety that has proved difficult to produce in any quantity has been Showa. I have pestered Mamoru and Yohei for Showa for the last 18 months and they now have Koi they are very confident with. This confidence and my pestering means that we will have 50 of this years best Tosai Showa available over the weekend of September 12th and 13th. These Koi were hatched in June this year, yet will measure around 5-6 inches when they arrive here this week. These Koi can be purchased with the personal assistance of Mamoru at our show room on this weekend, the 12th and 13th Sepember.. This is not only a chance to purchase one of these Super Hybrids but also the chance to meet and learn from one of the next generation of Koi Breeders.
It is unusual for a breeder to let Koi like this leave his farm at this time of year let alone leave the country! The Showa are some of the best he has bred and will be priced at just £200. If you are interested in purchasing one of these Koi please register your interest with us as soon as possible so as to avoid disappointment.
